Is America's Favorite Couple a Scam? What the Contest Rules Actually Say

America's Favorite Couple opened registration in late May 2026 with public voting beginning July 6th. The contest features Jeff Goldblum, Emilie Goldblum, Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, and Charlie Day as hosts and benefits Oceana and the LA Regional Food Bank. With that lineup of celebrity names and a significant prize package couples are asking the same question that appears around every Colossal competition. Is this real.

I competed in a Colossal contest with my son and reached the semifinals. Here is the complete factual answer.

Who Runs America's Favorite Couple

America's Favorite Couple is operated by Colossal Management LLC, a Delaware-registered for-profit professional fundraising company. The celebrity hosts are brand ambassadors in a sponsorship arrangement. Colossal Management runs the competition entirely.

The Charities

America's Favorite Couple benefits two organizations. Oceana, the largest international advocacy organization dedicated to ocean conservation, and the LA Regional Food Bank, which distributes food to people in need across Los Angeles County. Both are independently verifiable nonprofits with documented charitable activity.

Donations flow through DTCare or AIT, Colossal's registered 501c3 charitable intermediaries, before reaching these organizations after competition fees of 36.5% and variable costs are deducted. Verify the specific intermediary and current fee structure in the official contest rules.

The Prize

The grand prize includes $20,000 cash, a feature in Variety Magazine as an advertorial, and a dinner date experience with Jeff Goldblum and Emilie Goldblum. Verify current cycle prize details at the official contest website as prize packages can vary.

The 2026 America's Favorite Couple Round Schedule

Public voting begins July 6th, 2026. Here is the complete round schedule based on the official contest rules.

Top 20 begins July 6th and ends July 16th. Public voting helps reduce each group to the top 20 competitors.

Top 15 begins July 16th and ends July 23rd. The group reduces to 15 competitors.

Top 10 begins July 23rd and ends July 30th. The group reduces to 10 competitors.

Top 5 begins July 30th and ends August 6th. The group reduces to 5 competitors.

Group Finals begins August 6th and ends August 13th. Public voting reduces total competitors to one preliminary winner in each group who advances to Quarterfinals.

Wildcard Round begins August 14th and ends August 16th. Competitors who took second place in their Group Finals group compete in a 72-hour round for a chance to advance. Votes reset.

Quarterfinals begins August 17th and ends August 27th. Votes reset. New groups form.

Semifinals begins August 28th and ends September 3rd. Votes reset. New groups form.

Finals begins September 4th and ends September 10th. Votes reset. The Grand Prize Winning Couple will be announced on or around October 9th, 2026.

Every round except Wildcard ends on Thursday at 7PM Pacific Daylight Time which is 10PM Eastern.

Is This a Scam

No. America's Favorite Couple is not a scam in any criminal or legal sense. The organizations running it are registered legal entities. The charities receiving donations are independently verifiable nonprofits. The fees are disclosed in the official rules. The prize package is documented.

The legitimate criticisms that apply to all Colossal contests apply here. The fee structure reduces what reaches the charities before they arrive. The group ranking creates the appearance that everyone is performing well simultaneously. Celebrity associations create impressions of endorsement that are more limited than they appear.

None of that is fraud. It is a complex fundraising competition that rewards contestants who understand how it actually works.
